When Valera was thirteen years old, his family relocated from Queens, New York to San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic. In July 2017, as an unrestricted foreign free agent, he joined the Cleveland Indians.
During his first six games as a professional, Valera batted.333 with the Indians of the Arizona League.
He played with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers to start the 2019 season before being promoted to the Lake County Captains before the finish of the campaign. He batted throughout the course of 52 games for both clubs. 214 with 32 RBIs and eight home homers.
