Born on September 26, 1995 (age 26 years), in Guayubín, Dominican Republic, Albert made his professional debut in 2014 with the Dominican Summer League Astros where he had a 3–2 win–loss record with a 2.78 earned run average (ERA) in 14 games.
Albert signed with the Houston Astros as an international free agent in August 2013.
He is said to have pitched 2015 with the Greeneville Astros and then started 2016 with the Quad Cities River Bandits. He was subsequently promoted to the Lancaster JetHawks.
However, the Houston Astros traded Albert Abreu to the New York Yankees on November 17, 2016, alongside Jorge Guzmán for Brian McCann.
