Is Central Africa the same as Central African Republic?

No. The Central African Republic, roughly the size of France, is a landlocked republic in Central Africa.

 

It is bordered on the north by Chad, on the north and east by Sudan, and on the south by the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of the Congo. To the west is Cameroon.

Forest covers an estimated 8% of the country, with the densest areas in the south. The forest is diversified, with Ayous, Sapelli, and Sipo species that are commercially important. Timber poaching is thought to be widespread.

Lowland gorillas and forest elephants are abundant in the country, with some of the greatest concentrations in Africa.

The weather is mostly tropical. The northern parts of the country are exposed to harmattan winds, which are hot, dry, and dusty.

Desertification has occurred in the northern regions, while the northeast is desert. The rest of the country is vulnerable to flooding caused by surrounding rivers.
