Jeena Ostapenko often referred to as Aona Ostapenko, is a professional tennis player from Latvia who was born on June 8, 1997. Her career-high WTA rankings in singles are No. 5 (achieved on March 19, 2018) and No. 17 (achieved on March 2, 2020).
The 2017 French Open singles champion, Ostapenko, made history by being the first person from Latvia to win a Grand Slam singles competition and the first unseeded person to win the French Open since 1933.
She has played for the Latvia Fed Cup team in addition to her career in singles. She has won seven singles championships, eight doubles titles, and the junior singles competition at the 2014 Wimbledon Championships in addition to other victories on the ITF Women’s Circuit.
Jevgnijs Ostapenko (d. 2020), a former footballer from Ukraine, and Jeena Jakoveva welcomed Ostapenko into the world in Riga. In Zaporizhia, Ukraine, where Jeena’s grandmother resides, Jevgnijs played professionally for FC Metalurh Zaporizhya.
One half-brother, Maksim, who resides in the US, is Jeena. She was introduced to tennis by her mother when she was five years old, and as a little girl, she looked up to Serena Williams. At that age, she also began dancing, going on to compete in the National Latvian Ballroom Dancing Championships.
She focused on tennis when she was 12 years old, although she attributes her coordinated footwork and strong coordination to her years of dance.
