Jeremy Hunt is a British politician serving as Chancellor of the Exchequer since 14 October 2022.
He previously served in the Cabinet as Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport from 2010 to 2012, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care from 2012 to 2018, and Foreign Secretary from 2018 to 2019.
In June of 2010, he made the contentious claim that the Hillsborough disaster that occurred in April 1989 was the product of hooligan behavior in football (rather than the absence of police control). He expressed regret for the remark at a later time.
In September of 2010, it came to light that his former parliamentary assistant, Naomi Gummer, had gained a post within the Department for Culture, Media, and Sport. As a result, he was accused of practicing nepotism because of this situation.
During this period, the duties of overseeing the media and communications were transferred to the position of Secretary of Culture.
As a result of the issue surrounding his inappropriate interaction with News Corporation while he was in a position of quasi-judicial power to assess the latter’s takeover offer for British Sky Broadcasting, the opposition demanded that he quit.
