Physical Description

An extremely tall and slender figure. a world-class athlete with Long arms and wide shoulders with room to hone your muscles if necessary. Christian Yelich shares some of his physical characteristics.

Hit

A wide, slightly open stance with a slight crouch is how Lowe will approach the crease in the box. He shifted his pre-load slightly, keeping the bat slightly off his shoulder and keeping his hands just below the ear.

Starts his swing with a high leg trigger to get good hip-to-shoulder separation. Bats fly faster than ordinary birds, and their flight pattern generates a significant amount of natural loft.

There has been an improvement in the swing in 2021, but the zone remains prone to mistakes. While he has difficulties picking up spin and has been beaten regularly by velocity up in the zone, he will undoubtedly punish pitches early in the count. Grading Scale: 45

Power

At the beginning of practice, Lowe appears to be a natural at throwing balls over the fence on the pull side with ease. Produces a ton of loft in his swing path such that easy power is available when attacking balls in the front.

In spite of his large frame, Lowe is able to knock balls over the fence even when he misses them with his lower half fully integrated into his swing.

The overall approach at the plate could limit the overall power profile in the big leagues, but he can consistently hit exit velocities north of 100 MPH. Grading Scale: 55

Field

As a result of his speed and ability to cover territory rapidly, Lowe may be the Rays’ greatest outfielder overall.

Has demonstrated the ability to attack balls that are traveling towards or against the wall at all three outfield spots, which he has done.

Never puts himself in an awkward position to make the play, and even then brings his athleticism and instincts to the table to compensate for it. The glove has the potential to succeed in the major leagues on its own. Grading Scale: 60

Arm

When Lowe throws, he does a great job of putting his body behind them, resulting in consistent carry and power behind them.

It is possible to make almost any outfield throw, and it is accurate throughout the throw. Can occasionally be rushed, although his overall arm talent is a plus. Grading Scale: 60

Run

Lowe is a superb base runner because of his size. It’s hard to believe that he can cover so much distance with his stride and second gear, but it’s true.

Possesses the hustle to rack up double-digit stolen base totals each year, giving him the potential to threaten the majors in this area. Grading Scale: 60

Overall

For a player currently in the majors, Lowe provides a solid foundation to build on. All of Lowe’s outfield tools, especially his raw power, will serve him well throughout his career.

In 2021, Lowe’s swing has changed slightly, allowing him to make more consistent contact without sacrificing power, and that will be a major factor in him reaching his full potential.
