The royal family gathered on Monday morning for Queen Elizabeth’s state burial, which was held at Westminster Abbey. Meghan Markle was one of the attendees who chose to honor Her Majesty by dressing appropriately.
The Duchess of Sussex dressed in all-black for the solemn event, accessorizing with a black hat and pearl and diamond earrings that appeared to be the same pair that the late Queen gave to Meghan back in 2018.
Just one month after marrying Prince Harry, Queen Elizabeth reportedly gifted her granddaughter-in-law the chic earrings before their first solo outing together in Cheshire. According to rumors, the delicate studs are a scaled-down version of one of the Queen’s go-to looks.
Last week, Meghan wore the earrings again during the procession of Queen Elizabeth’s casket from Buckingham Palace to the Palace of Westminster via gun carriage. She adhered to royal mourning etiquette for that ceremony as well, dressing in all-black.
Since the death of the Queen on September 8, Harry and Meghan have been residing in the U.K. They were already in Europe for a series of engagements for charities at the time.
The Sussexes, who now reside permanently in California with their two children Archie and Lilibet, stayed in England during the period of mourning and have subsequently made several public appearances alongside other royal family members.
Harry and Meghan are anticipated to attend the private committal service at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor with the rest of the royal family after the funeral for the Queen, who will be buried there alongside her parents, sister, and adored late husband, Prince Philip, in the King George VI Memorial Chapel.
