R. Kelly, a singer, was given a 30-year prison term for racketeering and sex trafficking. Disgraced R&B icon R. Kelly was given a 30-year prison term on Wednesday, months after he was found guilty on all nine charges in a prominent sex trafficking case.

The Exceptional R&B star was sentenced to a period of 30 years imprisonment on Wednesday for alleged charges of him being engaged in physical and sexual abuse of women and minors. The Prosecutors at the time asked for a 25-year sentence.

“The public has to be protected from behaviors like this,” Judge Ann M. Donnelly said as she delivered Kelly’s sentence, according to media reports. “These crimes were calculated and carefully planned and regularly executed for almost 25 years.”
