In the United States, Bette Midler works as an actress, comedian, singer, and writer. In Honolulu, Hawaii, on December 1, 1945, she was born. She was a student at Honolulu’s Radford High School, where she was elected “Most Talkative” in the school’s 1961 Hoss Election and “Most Dramatic” in her senior year. She majored in acting while she was a student at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

She pledged to the sorority Delta Phi Epsilon as a student at the university, and she is a former member. In 1965, she was cast in her first professional theatrical role in Tom Eyen’s off-off-Broadway productions of Miss Nefertiti Regrets and Cinderella Revisited, a daytime children’s play and a nighttime adult production.

From 1966 through 1969, she appeared on Broadway in Fiddler on the Roof as Tzeitel. She began the NYRP, or New York Restoration Project, in 1995. It is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to revitalize neglected neighborhood parks in New York City’s economically depressed districts. At the Medallion Ceremony in December 2021, she received the Kennedy Center Honor as a tribute to her career of achievements in the performing arts.
