Robert Maxwell, a British media mogul of Czechoslovak descent, and Elisabeth, a researcher of French origin, are the parents of Ghislaine Noelle Marion Maxwell, a former British socialite and convicted sex offender who is the ninth and youngest child.
In 2021, she was convicted of child sex trafficking in association with the wealthy and already incarcerated sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
On June 28, 2022, a New York court handed down a 20-year prison term to the defendant. Ghislaine Maxwell was born in 1961 in Maisons-Laffitte, a town in the Yvelines region of France. Maxwell, a native of France, was brought up in Oxford.
She spent the 1980s as a student at Oxford’s Balliol College, where she rose to prominence in London’s social scene.
Maxwell continued to work for her father, Robert Maxwell, when he passed away in 1991, moving to New York City where she continued to live as a socialite and began dating Epstein.
