Thailand’s current King, Vajiralongkorn, was born on July 28, 1952. King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit have only one child, a son named Bhumibol Adulyadej.
His father named him crown prince when he was 20 years old, in 1972. He was expected to take the throne of Thailand after his father’s death on October 13, 2016, but he requested time to mourn before doing so.
On the night of December 1, 2016, he accepted the throne. His coronation took held on the 4th and 6th of May, 2019. Following his father’s death on October 13, 2016, the Thai government declared his rule to have begun on that date.
He is also known as Rama X, as he is the tenth ruler of the Chakri dynasty. Vajiralongkorn, who was 64 at the time, was the oldest Thai monarch to succeed to the throne.
