Dermot Fitzpatrick Former Teachta Dála of Ireland Dies at 81

Dermot Fitzpatrick died on 23 March 2022 at his home. His Family has not stated his cause of death yet.

 Who was Dermot Fitzpatrick

Dermot Fitzpatrick was born on April 12, 1940, in Dublin, Ireland, and was a Fianna Fáil politician who represented the Dublin Central constituency in the Teachta Dála (House of Commons) from 1987 to 1992 and again from 2002 to 2007.

After being nominated by the Taoiseach, he served as a Senator for the State of Ireland from 1997 until 2002.

The native of Dublin had his education at Coláiste Mhuire, a secondary school in the city that taught Irish as a second language, and at University College Dublin, from which he received his doctorate in medicine in 1977.

Prior to entering politics, he worked as a family doctor in the private sector.

Dermot Fitzpatrick stepped down following the 2007 general election.

The Fianna Fáil candidate in Dublin Central for the 2007 general election was his daughter Mary Fitzpatrick, who is a member of the Dublin City Council and a Fianna Fáil member of the European Parliament.

Other candidates were Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and Senator Cyprian Brady (who was later defeated in the election). She did not win the election.

Dermot Fitzpatrick left behind a  wife called Mary.
