As one of the most anticipated Super Bowl halftimes shows in recent memory, this year’s was no exception. Bringing together Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, and Dr. Dre elevated the show’s star power to a level that made it a must-see performance.
There are performers from every generation of music represented, all hailing from the rap and R&B genres.
Snoop Dogg has been nominated for a Grammy 17 times but has never won. Kendrick Lamar has won 13 Grammys, Mary J. Bilge has nine Grammys, and Dr. Dre has seven.
To kick things off, Dr. Dre emerged from the set to perform “The Next Episode” with Snoop Dogg. This halftime concert was as sentimental as it was enjoyable because of the long history of the performers’ collaborations and appearances together.
As a surprise guest, 50 Cent performed “In Da Club,” in which he began performing in the hanging sit-up posture from the accompanying music video. Unexpected guests always delight me, and hearing a vintage hit will never leave me dissatisfied.
Immediately following 50 Cent’s performance, Mary J. Blige grabbed the stage and performed her hit songs “Family Affair” and “No More Drama.” Blige’s gown was a show-stopper even before she started singing, with the glittery ensemble sticking out against the white set of the concert.
